The Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Program is only for residents of Springfield and Port Bruce. This Fall the collection is scheduled for October 30 to November 24, 2017. There is no limit to the amount of leaf and yard waste that can be set out. The program is NOT for waste items from farm or commercial or industrial operations. The material MUST be set out in paper bags which weigh less than 22 kilograms (44 pounds) or bundled in lengths not greater than 1.2 m (4 ft). Acceptable material includes: leaves, sticks & twigs, garden plants, yard and garden trimmings. Check here for any changes to the collection dates due to weather conditions.
Due to the recent close calls in Malahide, and not so close calls in area municipalities along with the dry conditions and prospects of rain at a minimum, Malahide is placing a burn ban into effect until environmental conditions change. Environment Canada has also issued an extreme air quality warning in Elgin for the next couple of days that can only be exacerbated by unnecessary burning. Campfires for the purpose of cooking or heating are the ONLY exceptions. These campfires MUST be no greater than 24" in diameter, in a non-combustible container, and attended at all times with a source of extinguishment nearby.
