
The Building and Planning Department is responsible for all building and planning matters within the Township of Malahide. This includes issuing building permits, official plan amendments and zoning by-law amendments applications, land severance and minor variance applications, site plan control and subdivision matters and property standards inspections.
A building permit may be issued only when an application complies with the Malahide zoning by-laws, Ontario Building Code and any other applicable regulations and laws.
In general, a building permit is required to erect, install, extend, alter or repair a building
The following projects require a building permit:
- A new building greater than 10 sq. m. (107 sq. ft.)
- Renovations
- Structural work, including alterations to interior partitions or the installation of new skylights, windows or doors
- Demolitions
- Additions (including garages, porches, carports, decks, dormers etc.)
- mobile homes
- prefabricated structures
- Pumbling, Heating and Ventilation Systems
- Fireplaces, woodstoves and chimneys
- Pools (inground or above ground)
- Temporary Buildings
- Farm Buildings
- Replacing or installing new plumbing
The following projects do not require a building permit:
- Painting
- Landscaping
- Driveways,
- Kitchen Cupboards
- Eaves troughs
Note: Although a Building Permit may not be required you MUST still comply with the requirements of the applicable Municipal Zoning By-Law.

Septic System Permits:
A Building Permit is required in all cases where an existing or new septic is constructed, altered, or repaired in any manner. This includes alterations or replacement of a septic tank or pump chamber. Please contact the Building Department for more specifics.

Applications For Building Permits:
Applications for Building Permits can be obtained from the Municipal Office. A completed application will also need to consist of sketches, building drawings, plans and other documents
Other Applications:
Please note that it may be in your best interest to speak to the Clerk/CAO Randy Millard, prior to submitting an application. These forms must be submitted directly to the Township Office along with the required deposit.
