Shoreline Management Plan Open Houses

A series of Open Houses to detail work completed to date on the Elgin County Shoreline Management Plan are scheduled for the last week of August.
The County of Elgin, its shoreline municipalities and conservation authorities are undertaking a joint Shoreline Management Plan for the Elgin County shoreline. The management plan will establish accurate coastal hazard maps to assist stakeholders and regulators to evaluate future development permits and assess infrastructure at risk along the Lake Erie shoreline. An important part of the planning process is to inform the public and get feedback on these issues.
“Any landowner or tenant with property along the shoreline should consider attending an Open House,” says Elizabeth VanHooren, General Manager of Kettle Creek Conservation Authority (KCCA). “Erosion rates along this stretch of shoreline have been as much as 14 feet per year.” Three Open Houses are planned with each having an afternoon session from 2 – 4 p.m. and an evening session from 7 – 9 p.m.

  • August 26, 2014 EM Warwick Conservation Area, 26135 Warwick Line, West Lorne
  • August 27, 2014 Port Stanley Arena, 332 Carlow Road, Port Stanley
  • August 28, 2014 Port Burwell Legion, 40 Wellington Street, Port Burwell

Each session will start with a presentation from the consultant detailing the plan. The public will also be able to preview draft mapping and ask questions.
