Back to SearchThe Council of the Township of Malahide will be presented with the 2026 Draft Budget at the December 18th Council meeting. The draft budget book, and associated staff reports are included in the Council meeting agenda package and provided below.
As a municipality designated under the Strong Mayors, Building Homes Act, 2022, the Township of Malahide is required to follow the mandatory mayor led budget process prescribed by Ontario Regulation 530/22 under the Municipal Act, 2001. In accordance with this legislation, the Mayor has issued a Mayoral Direction confirming that the 2026 Budget will be prepared and considered using the Strong Mayor budget process.
Under this framework, the Mayor is responsible for preparing and proposing the budget, which then proceeds through the following legislated stages:
- Public release of the proposed budget;
- A Council amendment period;
- A Mayoral veto period; and
- A final Council override period requiring a two-thirds vote of Council.
