Whether you're looking to obtain a Dog Licence or wanting to report an animal at large, we have a number of resources available.

Animal Cruelty & Welfare

For Animal Cruelty & Welfare concerns, please contact 1-833-926-4625.  Effective January 1, 2020, the Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) Act came into force, creating the first fully provincial government-based animal welfare enforcement system in Canada. Ontario now has the strongest penalties in Canada for people who violate animal welfare laws.  The Province has established a toll-free number, 1-833-9-ANIMAL (264625) for people to report concerns about animal distress or abuse. This Call Centre is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Dog Control

Dogs within Malahide Township are required to be licenced annually.  Please view the dog licencing page for process details.

Stray Dogs

If your dog is missing, please call the St. Thomas City Animal Services Centre at 519-631-7430. You can report your dog missing, and ask if it is in their shelter.

Pick up of a Stray - Call Bayham K-9 Control (Rodger Martin) at 519-983-6036.  The stray dog must be confined.  If you have complaints about a dangerous or potentially dangerous dog, please contact the Township Office By-law Enforcement Officer at 519-773-5344, ext. 233.  The Township of Malahide uses the St. Thomas Animal Shelter.  If you find a dog and are able to confine it, call Bayham K-9 Control for pick up or you can take it to the shelter directly.

Cat Licences

The Township of Malahide does not issue cat licences.  If you find a stray cat, please contact the City Animal Services Centre in St. Thomas as the Township is partnered with this service.

Wildlife and Pest Control

If you find an, injured, ill, or displaced animal, please contact an Authorized Wildlife Rehabilitator in your area. They are trained in dealing with wildlife conflicts and can assist you by offering humane alternatives to trapping along with how to wildlife-proof your property. In Elgin County, their service is free; and if available, someone will attend your residence if requested.  www.ontariowildliferescue.ca
