Candidate Information

Candidate must be:

  • A resident of the municipality or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant;
  • A Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old;
  • Not legally prohibited from voting; and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office and;
  • You will need 25 signatures on your nomination form and must pay a fee of $100 for Deputy Mayor/Councillor or $200 for Mayor.

*You aren't required to reside in the ward that you are running for.

Procedures

The nomination period for the next Municipal Election opens on May 2, 2022. It closes on Nomination Day August 19, 2022 at 2:00pm. A Candidate for Municipal Office must, upon nomination, be a qualified municipal elector in the Township and meet all the requirements. If interested in running for office, you are encouraged to view the 2022 Ministry's Candidates Guide. The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) site has some helpful resources.  AMO also offers a webinar - Lead Where you Live:  A guide on running for Municipal Council.

Candidates may not accept donations, spend money, or advertise until they file their nomination.
